They play an sweet sounding blend of Southern Rock, funk and psychedelia that is unsurpassed in Atlanta right now. They recently opened for a beatlanta show at Wonderroot and set the night off to an awesome start. I have added them to my favorite band list for up and coming Atl bands and I think they are definitely a sound to be looking out for and will soon be a force to be reckoned with in our cool little city. Here is a video from the show....Beatlanta presents Free Ticket live at Wonderroot on Saturday, August 1st, 2009......

I had only heard they rock from a friend that we hooked them up with to play a block party, and my friend wasn't lying. They started the set with a sweet little number that begin with a solo, pure funk baseline. They slowly faded in the other instruments building perfectly upon the baseline, ending up as a swirl of exciting sounds wielding kaleidoscope type shockwaves that immediately started the crowd moving...and it remained on that level through their entire set.

Here is an interview I managed to get with the band...

-When did your band form? Who plays what? How do you know each other. Tell me a little about Free Ticket...what are you guys about? What's the name from?

Free Ticket started in April 2008. Gage Gilmore plays bass for the most part. David Gray and Danny Bailey sing and play guitar for the most part. Daniel Betts plays drums and synth for the most part. We switch. The name came from a short film we made called Free Ticket. An early version of "Departing a Beating" was used as the song for the film. Its about four guys who kill one guy and then walk for a while.

-Tell me your thoughts on the Atlanta music scene? ...your thoughts on your specific genre's scene in Atlanta?

The Atlanta scene is slowly coming out. There are a lot of new venues opening, which is a good sign. It is definitely more interesting than what is going on in Lawrenceville, which is all I have to compare it to.

-How do you guys advertise your shows?

Word of mouf'. We are yet to make flyers and staple them to everything solid enough to hold staples. But we will do it. One day. Promise.

-What places have you toured (if any)? What towns? Whats your favorite venue to play in Atl and whats your favorite town besides Atl you've played so far?

We have only played in Atlanta. We played at the Black Box (behind Java Lords) once. That is a really cool room.

-Are there any major influences that influence your sound or made you want to start your band?

Brian Jonestown Massacre, The 13th Floor Elevators, My Bloody Valentine, The Black Angels, The Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse, Avett Brothers, Jaco Pastorius, Velvet Underground

-Tell us about how you feel about this past show at Wonderroot...was this your first time at Wonderroot?

There were a lot of people there who we did not know, and a majority of them left with one of our CDs. sweet. We have played there more than any other venue. Wonderroot is the shit.

-How do you feel about file sharing? Do you feel it helps young bands or is detrimental the biz as a whole? Do you feel it has a place at all in the future of the music industry...

Music should be free

-What are your thoughts on the future of the music industry?

A majority of it will be shit. bummer.

-What other local acts would you recommend to your fans and fans of local area music?

Deerhunter. VeganCoke. Rabbit. Trappers Cabin. The Four-Four Collective.

......Free Ticket live at Wonderroot for a beatlanta show on Saturday, August 1st, 2009.....
